Active Tags

Making Your AI Assistant Respond to Chat, Text, and DMs Using Active Tags

If you want your AI assistant to handle chats, texts, and DMs automatically, the active tag is the secret “on switch.” Here’s how it works, how to set it up, and how to automate the entire process so you don’t have to add tags manually for every contact.

What Are Active Tags?

  • Active tags connect your AI assistant to specific contacts in your CRM.

  • When the tag is added to a contact, the AI is activated for chats, SMS, Facebook DMs, and other messaging channels.

🏷️ Tip: When adding the tag to a contact or workflow to turn on the AI, ALWAYS use the existing active tag for your assistant—do not create a new one. Only the pre-generated tag links your CRM to your AI assistant.

Step-by-Step: Connect and Automate Active Tags

1. Set Up the Active Tag in Your AI Builder

  • When you create a new AI assistant, a unique active tag is automatically generated.

  • You can rename the tag for clarity (e.g., “Sales_Agent” or “Support_AI”).

  • These tags automatically sync to your CRM.

2. Add the Tag to a CRM Contact

  • Adding the tag manually to a contact enables the AI for that contact.

  • Send a message to that contact: the AI will reply if the tag is present.

💡 Troubleshooting: If you’re not getting a response, check if the active tag is attached to the contact. Use the inbox and logs to see which assistant/tag is active.

3. Automate Tagging with CRM Workflows

  • Go to your CRM’s Automations or Workflows tab.

  • Create a new workflow with a trigger (e.g., new lead from a form, customer reply, chat widget interaction).

  • Add an Action: Select “Add Contact Tag,” then choose the exact active tag tied to your assistant (don’t create a new one).

  • Save and publish the workflow.

Now, whenever a qualifying event occurs (new lead, chat, etc.), the workflow automatically applies the active tag, instantly turning on your AI for that contact.

Pro Tip: Use workflows to manage switching active tags (e.g., move from Sales to Support) as your contact moves through your pipeline.

Why Is This Important?

  • No manual work: Active tags are applied automatically.

  • Consistency: Every new chat, text, or DM gets an AI response without fail.

  • Powerful automation: Easily hand off conversations between different AI agents by changing tags in your workflow.
